I visited the Oral Roberts Prayer Tower, but unfortunately the "sound-and-light extravaganza" you describe is no more. You can still go to the top, and there's a great view, but none of the buttons work and all of the rooms up there are locked (including the old prayer room). There's a lot of construction going on around the building (so much so that you would think the tower would not be open, but it is!) and the young man at the desk said they'd probably be retrofitting the deck with a more up-to-date (read: bland and un-kitschy) presentation in the future.
In the meantime, you can watch an amusing video about Oral, and visit a surprisingly moving and beautiful prayer room on the ground floor. It features mood lights that slowly change colors, a chalkboard where you can write messages of faith, and a cross with holes in it where you can insert prayers.
Also you can pick up individual size packets of Jesus' blood.
