Boasting on the town limits sign its population of 1, Buford is a single house, gas station and post office -- the highest such place for a town along the entire span of I-80. In April 2012, resident Don Sammons retired and sold the town to a bidder from Vietnam for $900,000.

Smallest Town In America Population 1, Buford is the smallest town in the US. There is a single house and a gas station, it was closed when we stopped. It didn't look like it had been opened in awhile which is a shame because we would have bought a Buford magnet.

Buford is right along I-80, though sometimes gets cut off during harsh winter blizzards. Another Wyoming town, Lost Springs, lost its "smallest" title when it became wildly popular and mushroomed from 1 resident to 4.
