Cross Garden - Hell's Warning Label
Interesting and creepy. I think due to weather and time, not as many crosses surviving and trees are sprouting up covering some of the art, but overall worth the 10 minute drive off interstate. Also, an actual cemetery in front of the house.
[Tansy Ridings, 07/16/2012]Hell's Warning Label - Cross Garden
We decided to take a Sunday afternoon drive and ended up looking for this place. It took a while to locate it -- the directions look good, but are kind of vague. It really is something you just have to see. We parked on the side of the road and wandered around on both sides, taking pictures and reading the signs out loud to one another.
While Mr. Rice passed away several years ago, the crosses and signs still decorate the sides of the road, warning of Hell's fury. It is the kind of thing you will never see in a big city. Years of one man's personal mission to bring strangers to God. Yes, I am a church goer but, still, a bit much for me. However, oddly beautiful.
[Jan, 03/30/2011]W. C. Rice's Cross Garden
Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to check the place out. The Cross Garden still looks to be going strong after Rice's death. It was much larger than I was anticipating, very impressive, although apparently everyone is going to hell for fornicating... so claims a washing machine, anyway.
A large hand-painted sign declares the Garden for sale for $25 million.
[Jeanie, 07/10/2007]W. C. Rice's Cross Garden
We went on a Sunday morning and heard a man chanting, "Save the World, Spread the Word" from behind the house repeatedly. Highlights of this display include: washing machines, AC units, many crosses, wooden signs, and a car all with the Lord's word painted on them. The rocks with red paint on them that line his property add to the effect...
If you get lost, stop at any of the nearby gas stations. Note: the locals don't think of it as a "garden."
