Gallup, New Mexico: El Rancho Hotel - Home of the Movie Stars

Route 66 hotel built in 1937. Its "Home of the Movie Stars" claim - announced on its gaudy sign - is because Hollywood stars stayed here while filming Westerns nearby. Sleep in the same rooms as John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, many others.

Holy Smokes! This place is amazing! I fell in love just pulling into the parking lot. Very clean rooms -- very helpful front desk. My dog is happy. So glad I decided to stay at the El Rancho Hotel on my way to Sedona.

El Rancho Hotel - Home of the Movie Stars

Stayed at the El Rancho Hotel, and it was fun! They are very pet friendly even for our goofy 80 pound pup. Gallup can be sketchy, but they had a security guard at the parking lot at night. The Marx brothers suite was roomy and retro! Loved the black and white tile in the shower and bathroom.

You can see rooms where famous actors used to stay in this hotel. Their presidential suite is The Ronald Reagan Suite. They also have Doris Day, Kirk Douglas and other famous people rooms.

Kirk Douglas Suite.

El Rancho Hotel - Home of the Movie Stars

Stayed in Room 105 -- the "Kirk Douglas" king suite. Price wasn't bad, but having the kitchenette leading outside was kind of freaky. Loved the old school bathroom. This hotel lives up to its name of being around since the '30s.

Clean, wholesome, kitsch. Restaurant was good. Rooms were clean. Lobby and exterior are awesome. Similarly priced to the nicer chain hotels in town. A great stop!
