New Bedford, Massachusetts - Big Milk Bottle

It served for years as an ice cream parlor. The New Bedford bottle has a sister bottle in Raynham, both erected by Frates Dairy. They were designed by Les Labrose and painted white with a cream color close to the brim, which was the way milk came back then -- cream was on the top.

The New Bedford Bottle is now owned by G&S Pizza and will be serving ice cream soon (but the cream is gone from the top of the bottle -- they painted over it!). [Lady Marshal, 03/11/2006]

Two women purchased the Frate's milk bottle and have reopened it as an ice cream parlor. Haven't been there yet but hear the ice cream is just as good as it used to be. I've lived in New Bedford my whole life and am happy this landmark is open again! [Kris Cambra, 06/25/2002]

Frates Ice cream parlor was a town landmark forever. They closed it, which is a shame as they had Great homemade ice cream, BUT the milk bottle is still there! The building is for sale AS IS -- they aren't altering the structure!
