Black Duck Statues
Blackduck, Minnesota
Along a busy continuum of single statue villages, Blackduck offers three large statues to remind visitors that they at least slowed down here.
Duck #1
Downtown is the "Original Duck," which resembles a carved hunter's decoy. It's not actually the original -- this duck was built in 1942 to replace a less hardy statue. The duck measures 16 ft. long, crafted from cement, and sits on a pedestal on Main Street, next to the fire department.
Duck #2

Action figure black duck.
The fiberglass duck in Wayside Park, south of town, is more realistic, with wings up, ready to take flight -- or as some have observed, finishing taking a dump. It's a sculptural product of F.A.S.T., donated in 1983 by the Blackduck Lions Club.
The third duck, a private enterprise effort, advertises the pleasures of the Drake Motel from a perch outside the aging motor court. It struck us as sad and lonely -- about five ft. long, made of paper mache and wood.
