Great Blacks in Wax makeover for the "Mother Teresa of Baltimore"
The Great Blacks in Wax Museum, Baltimore, MD, unveiled an updated version of Bea Gaddy a famous local councilwoman and aid to the poor, on Wednesday. Also, known as the "Mother Teresa of Baltimore," a wax Bea Gaddy had been on display for many years, while the real one continued to age. An older Gaddy, sculpted to look more like the woman Baltimoreans knew, was scheduled to be unveiled in October. When Gaddy got sick and then died, the ceremony was respectfully postponed until this week.
The museum has expanded its displays in recent years, recovering from the rough financial situation we reported in 1997. They have updates planned for Rev. Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, and Frederick Douglass. The museum is at 1603 E. North Ave.
