Paul Bunyan was erected in 1959, and restored in 1986 and 2009. He is 31 feet tall, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. His construction was commissioned by the Kenton Businessmen's Association at a cost of about $2,500.

Paul is still standing guard in 2016. A plaque shows he's maintained by the Alliance of Portland Neighborhood Business Association.
[Ashley Williams, 05/28/2016]I was living in Portland for a few months and stumbled across this great Paul Bunyan in the Killingsworth district of Portland. He sits on a corner that is busy with traffic and train.
[Kristen Grinnell, 05/07/2006]This Paul Bunyan Statue, 35 feet tall, was erected in 1959 to greet visitors to the Oregon Centennial Exposition. He stands at the fork of a busy street in the Kenton neighborhood, a rare semi-urban Bunyan, adjacent to the Dancing Bare Gentlemens Club.
He is reported to be maintained these days by the Kenton Neighborhood Association and some local Boy Scouts.
