No Decision On Moving Queen Mary To Japan
The Long Beach (CA) City Council has voted to put off a decision on whether to allow the Queen Mary to be towed to Japan. The businessman who operates it as a tourist attraction wants to take it to Japan for three to five years in order to raise money to restore the ship to its original condition. The owner believes he can raise $20 to $40 million operating the ship in Tokyo as a hotel-casino.

- Long Beach, California - Scorpion Submarine
The Scorpion submarine was taken from the Russian fleet during the Vietnam War and Cold War. It was a part of the counter-espionage program that was underway. Ironically, ten years earlier the USS Scorpion was a model for the USA nuclear SLBM program and served as a prototype to house the first ocean-tested ocean-launched missiles.

The rusting Russian sub next to the Queen Mary looks out of place, but its history and tour are quite interesting. Before taking the tour, take time to look at the exterior, with moss growing on it at the water line and the rust. But they say it's safe!

- Los Angeles, California - Space Shuttle Endeavor
The last of the space shuttles returned home to Los Angeles. After flying around the state of California, past icons such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Queen Mary, Disneyland, the Hollywood Sign and many other places, Endeavor made its way through the streets of the city to the California Science Center. Tickets are free, but you need a reservation. Prior to seeing the shuttle, you go through an exhibit of the history of all the shuttles, and even see tires from the last landing.
[George Geary, 11/05/2012]The museum provides exhibits on the "space potty" and an opportunity to touch the actual tires used by the shuttle on landing.
