Dutch-themed Town
Holland, Michigan
"Welkom" from the Dutch-American epicenter at Holland, Michigan!
Area attractions include the Dutch Village, the Veldheer Tulip Gardens, the Netherland Museum, Windmill Island (complete with "De Zwaan," a 250-year-old, ten-story-tall, grain-grinding Dutch windmill that sells its own flour), and two wooden shoe factory tours. Everyone who visits can try on a pair!
The best time to be in Holland, Michigan is in mid-May, during the Tulip Time Festival. The festival lasts more than a week, but the highlight is the parade. The marshal staccato of wooden jackboots fills the air as several hundred "Klompen Dancers" from the local high school march on Main Street. It's a kinder, gentler goose-stepping, though.
