Like other towns with names ripe for cheap laughs -- Hooker, Mars, Intercourse -- the main appeal to a Boring visit is simply to drive through and spot signs. Or engage a local in a friendly chat about why the town is named Boring. In this case, the less you find out and the less you see, it's actually better, in a fog-of-dullness sort of way...
Years ago when we first did the Boring Crawl, it wasn't until we were exiting the east side of town that we spotted an inhabitant to quiz. Boring? Evelyn Hopp, who was weeding the ditch next to the Boring city limits sign, assured us that the town is anything but. "Boring was the name of the man who founded the town," corrected Evelyn, a local librarian.
