Atlas Holding the World of Tools
Chesterfield, Michigan
Greek mythology meets American nuts-and-bolts practicality, as a steel-plate Atlas shoulders a globe made of welded-together wrenches and factory junk. It was sculpted by Tom Moran of Moran Iron Works, and debuted in Onaway's July 4th parade in 2006. As was Tom's custom at that time, he auctioned off the sculpture for charity. The winning bid, $20,000, was submitted by an auto parts recycler outside of Detroit, and Atlas has hoisted his tool globe in front of the recycler's junkyard ever since.
