Big Gary: Former Papa Burger
New Baltimore, Michigan
As part of a population of oversized roadside statuary -- including a giant bull, cow, and "Greg. E. Normous" Muffler Man -- a 1960s A&W Papa Burger statue is the first obstacle encountered by mini-golfers at the World's Finest Frozen Custard & Family Fun Center. The goal is to tap your putt through a hole beneath Papa's feet.
The Papa Burger statue has not only been repainted, he's been reduced in age to a kid wearing a backwards baseball cap. Instead of an A&W mug, he holds a frozen custard-in-a-cone even bigger than his big head. He eyes the ice cream hungrily with a painted-on "yum" tongue. His other hand, which once held a giant hamburger, now usually balances a big golf ball.
A name on Papa's shirt reads, "Big Gary," likely a tribute to the attraction manager, Gary Sodini.
