Smok'N Butts BBQ alligator.

Rooftop Alligator (Gone)

Field review by the editors.

Panama City Beach, Florida

Although the wobbly looking wooden shack that is Smok'n Butts BBQ is best known to road-food aficionados as the "Home of the World Famous Butt Fries," it also serves barbecued alligator ribs. This is advertised with a giant, custom-built gator on the roof, longer than the shack, with its tail curling down over one exterior wall. You'll have time to admire it from your car while you eat, since Smok'n Butts BBQ has no interior seating. At one time it had a single outdoor picnic table, but that seems to have been sacrificed for additional car space.

Smok'n Butts BBQ is also known for its artwork of pigs with aprons and breasts, but the rooftop gator is what grabs the attention of passing motorists. The whole thing -- shack and gator -- looks like it could collapse at any moment, so see it soon.
