Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute

We were fortunate enough to take the very last tour of this amazing facility last summer. The chimpanzees were moved to a sanctuary in Canada last fall and the institute is closed. While this facility did good work during its time, it is becoming more clear that chimpanzees are intelligent, emotional, social animals who should never have been kidnapped and forced to live in captivity.

Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute

In Ellensburg, Washington, we discovered the world-famous but scarcely noted Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute, where four chimpanzees are on display. Located at the University of Central Washington, the public is invited to attend weekend seminars on their amazing language skills.

Chimposiums are conducted on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. No photography allowed. Not recommended for children under 6 years old.
