Sad to report that the Ernie Bushmiller plaque is no more. I visited the garden yesterday and the guys there said the plaque was removed along with the building it was on when the garden was renovated a couple of years ago. The Watcher, the slightly larger-than-life size statue of a man looking at the ground through a pair of binoculars, remains watchful on the 138th St. side of the park.
[Joe Schumacher, 11/01/2018]In the Point Morris section of the Bronx, there is a community garden called The United We Stand Community Garden, a part of St. Luke's Park. There is a plaque marking the building in the park as an "International Historic Site," as it is the birthplace in 1905 of "Nancy" comic strip artist Ernie Bushmiller!
