A nearly 200-year-old monument and hotel mark the hometown of America's first assassinated elephant. The old monument-topping elephant, removed in 2023, was replaced with a new, bronze elephant in April 2024.

The new "Old Bet" was dedicated and unveiled on April 20, 2024.
[Edward Dowdall, 04/25/2024]According to the local pharmacist, Old Bet was removed from her pedestal and taken inside the building, now the town hall, for repairs. Then it was discovered that the pedestal was cracked, too. No known date of return.
[Richard Shroyer, 11/26/2023]Old Bet is to be replaced by a new Old Bet, made of bronze. It will be the fourth elephant to top the pedestal since 1827.
