Stand By Me "Penny"

The penny from the film "Stand By Me" is in the middle of the road in the crosswalk.

Also from the movie, a faux-vintage Coke ad on a brick wall, first painted in 1985. The "old" mural actually did get old, so it had to be repainted in 2007.

Stand By Me Festival and Filming Locations

The small town of Brownsville was used as the town of "Castle Rock" in the movie "Stand By Me." The town holds a Stand By Me festival every year on July 23. You can take a walking tour of many filming locations, which still look much the same today as they did when the movie was filmed in 1985.

[Jennifer, 02/10/2014]

Brownsville's walking tour covers over a dozen movie spots in a few blocks. The green bridge out of town is still there. Our map point marks where Vern picked up the lucky penny; a penny is embedded in the middle of Main Street to mark the spot.

The "Stand By Me" Festival is on again for 2008. It's supposed to be a smaller venue than last year, but includes a sock hop. Saturday, August 16, 2008 3 p.m.
