Chief Crazy Horse.

Crazy Horse Memorial

The rock sculpture of Chief Crazy Horse is bigger than Mt. Rushmore. More than a head. Decades spent carving and blasting by generations, like the pyramids of old. And still not finished!

Chief Crazy Horse Memorial

Great place to learn about Native Americans and how a monument is carved into granite mountains.

Alternative view of Crazy Horse.

Crazy Horse

You can see the Crazy Horse sculpture from the main road [distantly, instead of entering the official attraction]. You have to be coming from the town of Custer. There is a small parking area.

If you're concerned/being careful about Covid-19, best to avoid this place. To get to the mountain, you need to ride a bus where there are no mask requirements. In addition, most of the museum is inside...again without a mask requirement. Save your $30 until the pandemic is over!

It is amazing that a single man started this and worked on it until his death. Ziolkowski and his wife raised their family of 10 children on the property, starting out with no running water or electricity. The family has never accepted any government money; it is all privately funded. It is well worth the small entrance fee.
