Big Bull on Wheels

The Clearwater Junction Bull has been at the Clearwater Junction for as long as I can remember - over 30 years. If you travel in Montana from Kalispell to Helena or Missoula to Helena, chances are you'll pass by the big bull. I can tell you it's over 7 feet tall. I'm 6 ft. tall and it towers over me.

The gas station has terrific huckleberry milkshakes inside and some cliff swallows living under the carport. This bull is what got me hooked as a kid on roadside kitsch. Because of the bull, as kids we would always beg our parents to stop at the junction whenever we were going through.

If you're ever driving east of Missoula, to Lincoln and Helena, you will come upon the largest plastic cow on wheels that you'll ever see. It's located at Clearwater Junction and has been there for at least 30 years. I always wanted to drive off with it. There is a rather large (15' high or so) cow at this gas station in Clearwater Junction Montana (the junction of hwy. 200 and the state highway that runs to Seeley Lake). [Ryan Washburn, 05/20/2000]
