Elizabeth Tashjian, Connecticut's "Nut Lady," died on Sunday at the Gladeview nursing home, where she had resided since 2002. She was 94.

[01/29/2007] Complete News StoryI am delighted to report that the renewal of my friendship with Elizabeth Tashjian, the Nut Lady (or "Nut Culturist" as she prefers to be called) has resulted in her rebirth of painting. Since being forced into a convalescent home three years ago, she has not created any new work until last September 2005, after I procured new paint for her. She has just completed four new works: one huge acrylic, a small acrylic collage, as pencil sketch and a pastel. She recently gave a gallery talk at Bugigangas Antique Shop in Old Saybrook. For an hour and twenty minutes she delightfully entertained a most receptive and admiring crowd seated at tables set up for an afternoon tea with her witty anecdotes and sage philosophies of her life.
