Father of the Gerrymander Grave

Gerry was 70 years old when he died only 19 months after becoming Vice-President. He's buried in Washington's Congressional Cemetery, not far from where he died of a heart attack, under a bulky pedestal with a big urn on top.

Grave of VP Elbridge Gerry

Congressional Cemetery in D.C. has proven that it wants to be more than an average boneyard. Taking advantage of the celebrities buried within, the cemetery has created a cellphone audio tour that allows visitors to learn about its famous residents. Included on this list are VP Elbridge Gerry, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, and John Philip Sousa.

The cemetery surprisingly also takes pride in hosting what it claims as the most visited unmarked grave in Washington: that of executed Lincoln assassination conspirator David Herold.
