World's Largest Chili Pepper Largest chili pepper in the world! Is enclosed behind a gate. [Hayden, 03/31/2012]
Built in 2010-2011 by the owners of a motel who thought it would attract tourists to their neighborhood, and give Las Cruces an identity (The chili pepper is New Mexico's favorite crop). This 47-foot-long behemoth also establishes Las Cruces as a rival to Hatch, New Mexico, which claims to be Chili Capital of the World.
Even if the motel changes owners, the fire-engine-red pepper will probably stay; it's an Old School attraction, built of 5,000 pounds of concrete.
