The museum got its unusual name when someone painted "Confederate Air Force" on an old WW-II fighter four friends had purchased in Texas. The four liked the name and it stuck. They began to purchase WW-II planes in the 1960s when they learned that many were being scrapped. Today the Confederate Air Force is a world-wide non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving the last of the great WW-II planes left in existence. [Greg Brown, 01/26/2001]
