I don't see how the (restored) engine could ever run. The wheels are welded to the frame. Did the restoration eliminate the functionality?

The location is west of the canyon, not east. Also, the train is in a severe state of disrepair, and has been moved a few hundred feet to the west of the GPS (map pin) location. It is no longer in front of a house, but a barn.

We've adjusted our Sad Monkey tracking satellite to more accurately pinpoint the train. Thanks!

Retired Sad Monkey Railroad

Ran in Palo Duro as an informative lecture tour from 1955 - 1996.

[Stacy Simonet, 02/15/2014]

The Sad Monkey was a miniature train tour piloted by an engineer who provided a running commentary on rock formations, plants and other things in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. The train was named after a rock formation that has since fallen down. Sad monkey!
