Toms River, New Jersey: Carrier USS Randolph Anchor
Built in 1944 and decommissioned in 1969, the aircraft carrier USS Randolph endured Japanese kamikaze attacks. It returned to public prominence as the recovery ship for Mercury astronauts Gus Grissom and John Glenn. Toms River ended up with the anchor, which symbolizes the local shipbuilding tradition, though the carrier was built in Virginia.
