Two bombers from two different air bases found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time above this spot in 1945. A plaque was dedicated in 2003.

B-29 Bomber Collision Site

Two B-29 bombers collided in mid-air over this spot on August 17, 1945. Only two crew members parachuted to safety; 18 others were killed. The memorial marker is at the Weatherford Public Library, next to the Mary Martin (as Peter Pan) statue.
