Dallas, Texas: Egyptian Restaurant: Jack Ruby's Steak

The Egyptian Lounge became the Egyptian Restaurant when an Italian family moved in and couldn't afford to completely replace the vintage sign. Jack Ruby met mob boss Joseph Campisi and ate a steak the night before he shot Lee Harvey Oswald. Still serves pizza.

Egyptian Restaurant.

The Egyptian, an Italian Restaurant

When Carlo "Papa" Campisi -- who claimed to be the first person to bring pizza to Dallas -- moved his Italian restaurant to Mockingbird Lane, he didn't have enough money to replace the sign of the previous occupant, a club called The Egyptian Lounge. Instead, he made the most minimal, cost-efficient correction he could. Ever since, this iconic pizzeria has remained -- however improbably -- Campisi's Egyptian Restaurant. There are no obelisks or sarcophagi to be found inside, just jukeboxes filled with oldies, some family portraits, and a famous thin-crust pizza.

Jack Ruby ordered a steak here the night before he shot Lee Harvey Oswald. Papa Campisi would later visit Ruby in prison for 10 minutes.
