Fred, the Town Dog When you drive into Rockford, the sign says, "Welcome to Rockford, Home of Fred, the Town Dog." When I visited, Fred was resting at the gas station on a loose leash. He is quite large and friendly, but appears somewhat old. Nonetheless, not many towns have a town dog any more. [Matthew, 09/23/2002]
