There is an upside down bathroom on display in a window in North Adams. I am a reporter for the town paper and did an article on it. It is the work of Ernie Perry, who fashioned it after a visit to the local contemporary arts museum, MassMoCA. Perry is the foreman for a local landlord who is causing the mayor of the town all sorts of pains. Well worth seeing. The toilet is on the ceiling and he has pipes coming out of the roof of the building exactly as the would out of the bottom of a house. The towels and the toilet paper both hang upwards.
Also of interest in North Adams is the sound installation at Natural Bridge State Park, which sends out weird sounds at a marble quarry at sundown, and under the Route 2 overpass, where weird sounds emanate thanks to two concrete blocks siphoning in traffic noise from above.
The shipwreck from the parking lot in Pittsfield was stored in North Adams prior to being shipped back to the artist.
North Adams is a weird place. Everyone ought to spend a few days here.
