[Clint, 04/25/2024]About nine years ago my family and I ended up at Fall River Historical Society's Lizzie Borden Museum, in Massachusetts. You know, "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks..." . They had the actual axe, autopsy photos, and even the chair she sat on in jail while she was awaiting trial. Our guide told us that actually Lizzie only hit her mother seven times and her father eight times with the weapon. It was pretty interesting.

It can be disquieting when a museum that displays oddities closes for "renovations" -- often code for "we're throwing out this weird junk" -- but in this case the Fall River Historical Society Museum said one of its goals was to better protect its collection of Lizzie Borden artifacts.
