Marceline, Missouri: Walt Disney Hometown Museum

Collection of Disney family artifacts and a miniature replica of Disneyland in an old train depot.

Housed in the restored 1913 Santa Fe Marceline Depot, with trains flashing by throughout your visit, the museum houses a unique collection of Disney family artifacts. Letters, photos, news clippings, Walt's first grade desk, and a wonderful volunteer to interpret the items. A video and a miniature replica of Disneyland are a couple of the more recent additions to the museum. Open April through October, admission.

Marceline is located just off Route 36 in Linn County. It is the boyhood home of Walt Disney and the model for "Main Street USA" in Disneyland. The town has Walt Disney park, his original home house, Walt Disney Elementary School (with original art by Disney artist). There are Disney festivals and Main Street is the same as when Walt lived there. It is a very friendly little town. [Jeff Gibson, 02/04/1999]
