Kaatskill Kaleidoscope

The Kaatskill Kaleidoscope is in the same building as a few antique and art dealers. There is also a bath soap room. The stuff is expensive, hence not kid friendly. You don't want junior accidentally breaking something. There are no cheap souvenirs to be had.

The show itself was a bit disappointing. The potential is there to put on some real nice shows (set to Beatles music, for example). But for only 5 bucks, it was well worth it.

Only 100 miles from NYC; it may as well be 1,000 miles away. During the fall, the foliage and mountain scenery is spectacular. [Robert C., 10/17/2010]

Kaleidoscope show. World's Largest Kaleidoscope

We were in the area and made it a point to stop by. Definitely worth it! It is $5 for 10 minutes but an interesting thing to see. Otherwise it is as described by others, surrounded by a pricey vaca resort. The staff were exceptionally nice. [Jeanne H., 07/24/2008]

[RA: Just recalling that kaleidoscope show makes our necks ache.]

World's Largest Kaleidoscope

We just visited the Kaleidoscope after seeing it posted on roadsideamerica.com. It is painted over, and is now located on the land belonging to the Emerson Resort. It's surrounded by high-priced shops that the resort installed, but seeing the Kaleidoscope is definitely worth it. It's around $5 per person, and is open daily from 10 am-5:30 pm with tours every 10 minutes or so. Also, the chocolate ice cream in the store next to it is amazing! [Alexandra Mulcahy, 09/16/2007]

[RA: There are now three programs created for Emerson's kaleidoscope, rotated depending on the season.]

Silo painted black. World's Largest Kaleidoscope

Update on the kaleidoscope -- my boyfriend and I visited in early June this year, and were sad to see that the cloud motif and large eyes were now gone from the silo! It is now boring black all over. Also, we were excited to see the "loose" history of the country - but instead, we saw about 5 minutes of random images set to bad music. This is worth going to just for the novelty value, and the really interesting store, but I've got to admit, the show itself is a ripoff ($10 for 5 minutes!!). [Asima, 07/09/2003]

[RA: Black silo... an ominous sign. Here's what we reported a few years ago.]
