Grave of Shep. Grave of the Toll Road Dog

As previously reported, Shep's grave was recently moved to the Broomfield Depot Museum grounds due to progress and construction on the interchange. All the gravestones, ironwork, gravel, and flags were replaced next to the old depot exactly as they were on Interstate 36. After watching a TV report on this story, I believe the mystery person who decorated and cared for Shep's grave all these years is the very same lady who spearheaded his re-interment. Shep, the Turnpike Dog

According to an article in the October 15th Denver Post, Shep as been reinterred at the Broomfield Depot Museum. His grave was moved from the Broomfield exit on the Denver-Boulder Turnpike to allow Colorado Dept. of Transportation to reconstruct the interchange. [Ken Johnson, 10/15/2009]

Shep, Toll Road Dog

The grave of the dog is on the southeast corner of the intersection of Highway 36 and Wadsworth. I understand that the dog was a stray, befriended by the workers of the toll booth (when 36 was a toll road). They fed it and cared for it and when it died they buried it there where the toll booth sat. [Sherri Boone, 07/22/2003]
