Milford, Nebraska: World's Largest Covered Wagon
At one time a gas station, and it still resembles a covered wagon, but today's visitors are disappointed that the giant wheels and cowboy are gone. Currently empty.

World's Largest Covered Wagon
Indeed, the gentleman who owned this property, and the property across the highway with the motel, teepee (you could stay in it, too), the church, school, etc. did pass away quite a number of years ago, explaining the increasing dilapidation of the properties. He put a great deal of work into building the area up, but sadly, it hasn't been taken care of since his death.
I understand from the locals that it is still in his family's possession. Too bad they didn't sell it so someone else could have taken care of this attraction he put so much of his life into. It was really a nice set-up in its day. It's still worth a look even today if you're in the area. I'm always amazed at what he did to make a gas station look like a real covered wagon!

Here's a picture of the world's largest covered wagon, taken on a recent road trip through the area. The building now appears to house a golf cart shop.
[Daniel Bruhn, 06/19/2008]Now disguised as "Outlaw Cycle," the place seems to be in fine shape from the outside. We tried to get access to the picturesque dilapidated church (across the road -- on the teepee side) visible from I-80, but couldn't get there from where we were. The slightly frightening "stay at your own risk" primitive barn/hotel (perhaps permanently closed) was our cue to vacate the premises, as well as the shadowy figure peeking at us from inside the residence. I'm sure the owners are nice folks.

Here is a current picture of the world's largest covered wagon which is next to the Milford Muffler Man. Strips of the roof were blowing off when I was there in early October.
[Rich Birley, 11/24/2000]As self-proclaimed roving correspondent for the World's Largest Covered Wagon/Husker Muffler Man, I have the grim task of reporting that the gas station there in Milford, Nebraska (I-80 Milford exit 382) has had yet another nail driven into its coffin: The pumps are gone and filled in with sand, spelling even more neglect for the covered wagon, Honeymoon Cabin, and Muffler Man with the Big Red Hat. It is unclear whether or not the man responsible for the Covered Wagon is still alive and what will become of the Muffler Man.
