Life-size statue at the birthplace of the World's Tallest Man, Robert Wadlow, who stood nearly nine feet tall. Artifacts from his life are displayed in the Alton Museum of History and Art across the street.

A quick note to let you know that Big John still exists in Metropolis, Illinois. I've recently returned from the US and used Roadside America as my travel bible whilst driving from Atlanta to Seattle with a friend. Big John does still exist if not perhaps a little weathered.

During our very long road trip from Denton, Texas to Seattle, Washington, my family stopped here for a much needed break. We loved the easel! We found the park very nice and very clean. There was plenty of room to run and play. My daughter (age 7) and four-legged baby (age 4) loved it! Great stop!

- I-70 Exit 19, then follow the road north and west for about a mile. You'll see the easel on the right, at the corner of Cherry Ave.

- Blue Earth, Minnesota - Eastbound: The Golden Stripe
Just as the Golden Spike marked the meeting point of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Golden Stripe marked the meeting point of the transcontinental freeway. Partly paved over in 2006; restored in 2023.

- Park at the Blue Earth Rest Area, which has a historical marker about the Stripe (Although it doesn't call it that). Then you can, very carefully, walk out to the Golden Stripe, which is just before the merge where the Blue Earth Rest Area access road rejoins I-90.
- Blue Earth, Minnesota - Westbound: The Golden Stripe
