- St. Petersburg, Florida - Large Green Dinosaur
The large green dinosaur is gone. I stopped at the U-haul office next door and was told that I missed seeing it by about a month. The business that owned the dinosaur was sold and the building was torn down. The new owners had no use for a dinosaur, and because it was too big to move, it was dismantled and thrown away. What a shame.

- Port Orange, Florida - Ruins of Bongoland at Sugar Mill Gardens
The sheer silliness of the dinosaur statues is a major plus, but this site's history as the location of an early theme park should be a roadsider's true draw. It's a lovely location, with natural wonders such as the giant Confederate Oak (so named because soldiers allegedly took refuge in its enormous branches) and several themed gardens.
The sugar mill itself has recently received a wooden walkway and a metal roof, allowing visitors to walk inside the mill and read about the history of sugar production in Florida.
Other signs explain the history of Bongoland and other local lore. If you're in the Daytona area, this is very much worth a stop for some kitsch, beauty, and history in one fell swoop. Plus, it's free!

Miniature golf was a great invention, but it took dinosaurs and space aliens to make it even better. Home-built dino grabs attention out by the road.
