The former West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville, now a prison tourist attraction, will host its 10th annual "Mock Prison Riot" on Sunday, May 7. The riot will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and last until the rioters are subdued.
The Mock Prison Riot is a series of hands-on, fists-on, clubs-on battles -- hostage situations, cafeteria fights, gang wars -- in which prison guards and SWAT teams from across the country try out the latest riot-squelching gizmos and tactics on live volunteers. The volunteers are criminal justice majors from area colleges.
If you're in the Moundsville area on Monday, May 8, you may want to stop by the Penitentiary; perhaps you can pick up some debris or see some blood stains. [05/04/2006]
