In front of the Carr-Gottstein building, across from the courthouse, is a huge outdoor sculpture of a whale and whaling boats. Look closely: the whale has glass taxidermy eyes (very real looking). Look very closely and you'll notice that the little men in the whaling boats are being drowned by the whale! It has successfully overturned one boat and its expression seems to say it's pleased. I didn't notice the men until I worked in the building and could see it closely from the third floor windows..

"Storage Space Unlimited," who sells large Connex containers, has a huge metal buoy painted and sitting on top of one of their Connexes. I don't know how many years it's been since they first painted him, put him on his perch and named him, but he's quite a friendly face to see driving by.

I just got back from Alaska where I came across this grave yard. Basically what you are looking at is the combining of Russian (as in fur trade) and native burial practices that result in these fantastic spirit houses.
There's a 5-dollar donation box for the Russian Orthodox church. If visitors are lucky, they will see snow shoe rabbits being frisky in and among the graves and in the wilderness beyond.
