- Richmond, Virginia - Museum of Edgar Allan Poe
This is a great place if you are a fan of the famous poet, you might also want to visit St. John's Church on Church Hill. Poe lived across the street (house is still there) and his mother is actually buried in the cemetery of the church. This is also the church where Patrick Henry gave the famed "Liberty or Death" speech and there are re-enactments of that speech every Sunday.

The Bill "Bojangles" Robinson monument was sculpted in aluminum by Jack Witt and erected by the Astoria Beneficial Club on June 30, 1973. It's at the corner of Leigh and Adams, where in 1933 Robinson paid to have a stoplight installed after seeing two children trying to cross the busy intersection.
[Dean Jeffrey, 09/07/2010]This was the first statue of a black man in Richmond, "The City of Statues." The stoplight was the first in its black neighborhood.

Poe was born in Boston and died in Baltimore, but in between he did a lot of writing in Richmond. The museum, opened in 1922, has his boyhood bed and his travel trunk of death, packed with personal items. There's also a statue of Poe in Richmond, on the grounds of the State Capitol.
