- Louisville, Kentucky - Santa's Rocket Sleigh - Gone
I'm wondering if anyone out there knows what happened to Santa's Rocket Sleigh, an old streamlined city bus converted at no small expense to a red rocket ship, complete with fins. The windows were replaced with portholes, and the interior was generously upholstered with red and white vinyl on the walls and ceiling, eerily accented with twinkling Christmas lights. Among its far flung galactic journeys, it made landings throughout the 1960s at Dixie Manor Shopping Center in Louisville.
Instead of lining up to sit on Santa's lap, kids boarded the rocket and slowly orbited the parking lot. We were made to sit on the freezing white plastic seats listening to Christmas carols while Santa (assisted by a smartly dressed stewardess) walked down the aisle, thrusting a microphone in the kids' faces so the whole rocket got to hear what they wanted.

[Scott Mobley, 02/14/2008]Largest Clasping Stone Hands:- Address:
- 2900 W. Broadway, Louisville, KY
- Directions:
- Hwy 64 to 9th St. exit, take 9th St. to Broadway. Turn right on Broadway, past 29th St. The Hands will be on the left, on the south side of Broadway.
Huge limestone hands clasp across a sidewalk that enters a building in downtown Louisville. Measuring over 14' tall and 20' wide, they tower over the people that walk under them to enter the building. Surrounded by brick walls the hands symbolize the partnership between the community and the organization the building houses. The hands are stunning at night when they are illuminated. The area is not the safest and should be visited daylight or briefly at night.

Lynn's paradise cafe has just closed, which is a total bummer! I don't know how long the stuff will stay outside. That was my favorite kitschy spot in Louisville.
