Fairmount is the site of James Dean's grave, some Dean attractions, and an annual fan festival. But lately the town seems as interested in promoting its other famous son, cartoonist Jim "Garfield" Davis. The town used to have a museum and archive devoted to Dean, but it moved to next-door-neighbor Gas City, and a prime location out by the interstate. It houses the "World's Largest Collection of James Dean Memorabilia," including an entire room devoted to Dean collectibles, and a replica of his death car.
2008 Update: The James Dean Gallery closed in Gas City and beat a hasty retreat back to its original space in Fairmount. Curator David Loehr provides a free map to the cemetery where James Dean is buried and other James Dean Sights.
