"Grow a Beard, Abe" Girl Monument

Delphos, Kansas

Abe Grow a Beard Girl Monument.

Loopiest Lincoln Landmarks.

A small Kansas town has eked out its own spot among the Loopy Lincoln Landmarks. As a little girl, Grace Bedell wrote a letter to Mr. Lincoln suggesting that he grow a beard, and he did. She wrote the letter in Westfield, New York, and didn't move to Delphos, Kansas until ten years later. But that didn't stop Delphos from erecting a Grow a Beard Abe Girl monument in its own town square, referring to her as "Lincoln's Little Correspondent," and displaying a plaque reproducing the letter.
