Little Hollywood Land - Frontier Movie Town
Kanab, Utah
Kanab billed itself as "The Greatest Earth On Show" (back when people got the circus pun) and more recently as "Little Hollywood." This area of red rock bluffs and monuments has been the filming location for many productions, including the original Planet of The Apes, The Apple Dumpling Gang, The Search for Noah's Ark , as well as episodes of The Six Million Dollar Man. The town is proud of its filmography, and it is printed everywhere, from lunch menus to motel signs.
Frontier Movie Town offers the fake store fronts and accessories of a wild west town. There's a street set from The Outlaw Josie Wales, a Pioneer museum of "classic western artifacts," and various props and buildings from movie and TV westerns. Normally static during the day, Movie Town comes alive when scheduled busloads of old people arrive for a "Chuckwagon Cookout." They are fed in a cafeteria, then sit outside under fake covered wagons while a gunfight and comedy show takes place in the grass directly in front of them. For between performances, there's a gallows and some plywood cut-out photo opportunities.
