Mini Lincoln Meets Harriet Beecher Stowe
Hartford, Connecticut
Miniature versions of Lincoln and Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, face each other atop an outdoor table. The 2006 statue by Bruno Lucchesi commemorates the 1862 meeting between Lincoln and Stowe, who was a Hartford resident (Bruno took some liberties with Stowe, who looks about 18 in the sculpture, but was 51 at the time she met Lincoln). The statue is one of 16 Lincoln-related sculptures along the Hartford Riverwalk; it's also one of the few Lincoln statues that doesn't leave you standing in his 6'4" shadow. A lifetime spent looking at tall Lincolns makes photos of this one seem like optical illusions.
