Fayetteville, West Virginia: World's Longest Single Arch Steel Span Bridge

To really get a good look at the bridge, take the back road from the visitor center parking lot (ask one of the workers for directions) and wind your way down into the gorge. Not for the timid, this is a steep descent on a narrow road. Most of the road is one way -- down one side of the gorge and up the other. You can see the bridge much better.

You will cross a much smaller bridge at the bottom of the gorge. There is a parking area where you can walk down to the river bank and watch rafts and kayaks going thru the rapids. Not as many people know this route and I kinda hate to give away the secret.

There is a nice water fall on the way back up but it has very limited parking at the trail head and you will need a keen eye to spot it from the road in the summer months. You can walk right up to its base. Not far from the road. [NomadRider, 10/26/2010]
