The old store burned down and pieces were salvaged that now are being used in the next building. Fundraisers are attempting to find enough money to rebuild the old store. Too bad this happened and we missed the glory days. But we did visit the building they moved into. Charming and quaint but the sadness seems to fill the air.

The store burned down in February 2016. They plan on rebuilding, but I think it will be a while.

The 184-year old Rabbit Hash General Store, a registered historical landmark, was destroyed by a nighttime blaze on Feb. 13, 2016. The sign on the front of the building was pulled out of the debris and stored for possible use in any future restoration.

We stopped in the area while there was a bluegrass festival going on. We had a blast and while there were a bunch of motorcycles, we were felt more than welcomed by everyone!

The Mayor.

A dog is the elected Mayor Lucy, or "Lu Lu" as the locals call her. She seemed to be everywhere at once: fetching a stick with all the bikers in front of the store, playing in the creek behind the store and wading in the Ohio River when we walked out to the banks.

Former Mayor "Junior," who was a black lab, has passed on. Really cool part of the world and very laid back -- as any place with a border collie for a Mayor should be.
