DeForest, Wisconsin: Pinkie the Pink Elephant

The Pink Elephant is still standing. The Elephant sits next to a Citgo Station. You can go in there and buy little souvenir Pink Elephant stickers for a quarter. This exit is the same exit to be used for Ehlenbach's Cheese Chalet where you can see Sissy the Cow and get some great cheese goodies.

I still saw it a year ago. so I can say I've verified it as recently as 2003. I just look for the first De Forest exit on my way to Madison. Recent expansion of the highway that crosses I-90/94 at that point makes it harder to see. There's a McDonald's at the other side of the exit and it's right next to a small service station. Back in 1993 I was riding with someone who had car trouble and was towed to this station. I snapped this picture while I was waiting for the car to be fixed.

I last visited the pink elephant with shades nearly a year ago -- it's just south of I-94 at the westernmost DeForest, WI exit.

There is a pink elephant at either exit 126 or 131 off I-90/94 just north of Madison, Wisconsin. Close inspection of the photograph of your Marquette, IA, elephant leads me to believe that they are from the same mold (owned by FAST, of course). Also at the same exit is a mouse climbing a cheese shop sign and a big cow. While in the area, be sure to visit Waunakee, "The Only Waunakee in the World", and Lodi, "Home of Suzy the Duck".
