Big Donut - Dunkin Donuts

The Dunkin Donuts chain bought the old Daily Grind Espresso Bar -- with its giant pink donut -- in January 2014. The company said that the big doughnut would come down; it didn't conform to the DD corporate image. Howls of protest from preservationists and neighbors quickly forced DD to change plans. The doughnut was taken away, but when Dunkin Donuts opened on Dec. 9, 2014, the big doughnut was returned to its place of honor -- with chocolate frosting and colorful sprinkles. DD, now a big fan of the big doughnut, said in a press release that "no expense was spared" in its revival.

The Big Doughnut is currently taken down. It will be reinstalled when Dunkin Donuts moves in.

Giant Donut

The Giant Donut has been pink frosted and hasn't had any lettering for decades. I believe the doughnut shop is still vacant -- on its way to becoming a Dunkin' Donuts.

Dunkin' Donuts had originally threatened to remove the giant doughnut, but in early 2014 it announced that the doughnut would be preserved.

Big Doughnut

The lettering on the doughnut has been removed. It's just pink frosting now. It seems to be a coffee shop.

At the Daily Grind Espresso Bar. Most likely not part of the Big Donut chain, but giant nonetheless.
