Frazeysburg, Ohio: World's Largest Apple Basket

Be aware, location closes for the winter and doesn't open until mid April.

The apple basket is still holding court over the homestead. I almost missed it because I took a wrong turn in the parking lot. But I was confident that my GPS wouldn't steer me wrong, so before I left the area I explored the correct end of the enormous parking lot. Just barely over the trees I spied the top of the basket and had to park and walk up to it from the visitors' walkway.

I saw your photo of the largest apple basket -- didn't even know it was. I was there with my Dad in 2003 and whoa - it had apples in it. So they must be the world's largest apples! Ya think?

The "World's Largest Apple Basket" is at the Longaberger Homestead. The Homestead is like the Precious Moments Chapel, only without the chapel and the dead babies. It's a mecca for the same kind of strange people with weird "collectable" obsessions.

As I was pulling a tripod out of my trunk, the woman next to me was pulling two baskets out of her minivan and dragging them (and her kids) toward the main building. I asked the parking attendant why someone would bring baskets here. She said the woman probably wanted to get them autographed by a (presumably Longaberger) family member.

The giant apple basket sits at the end of a faux main street. A sign explained that the storefronts held "Longaberger at Home" displays: rooms tastefully decorated in ways that could inspire visitors.

I took some pictures of myself with the apple basket. I also took pictures of two women with their brand-new one use camera. I chided them for not being prepared with a camera of their own. One of them was cute, but, well, she was a basket collector. That's the problem with these places.
